I glued in the rosette this afternoon and when the glue had set up I took my new tool, an Ibex finger plane, to the protruding black and white purfling. What a sweet tool, solid shiny bronze, beautifully made, beautiful to use, sharp as a razor and easy to control. One of the chief joys of building instruments is the excuse it gives you to buy lovely tools like this.
Now that I have the black and white shaved down to the level of the blackwood ring I will take the sander to this top and make the rosette perfectly flat to the spruce. Then I will put it back on the rotation pin and cut out the sound hole inside this rosette. oh! but I loved using that pretty little finger plane.
