Big Leaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum), so common in the Pacific Northwest, is marvelous wood. Stable and strong, it makes great sounding instruments
it is normally rather plain in appearance but is capable of wild grain patterns, This is the rarest pattern , "Quilt". It looks like there are bubbles in the wood. This lovely back will go on a Concert for R. in Cal. It will be ukulele #185.
The ukulele sides will be "Quilt" also. With a Bearclaw Sitka Spruce soundboard and contrasting binding this ought to be a beauty. Just got started on it today.
