WHITTLING TIME

The time has come to whittle the braces and the tone bars and the Kasha system requires lots of them.  Fortunately I enjoy this part of the build greatly.

First we must locate and glue the hardwood patches to the underside of the soundboards.

Then mark off the length of each tonebar, and also how far it extends over the patch.

Now cut each to the proper length on the little bench top band saw.

I like to lay the cut pieces out on the soundboard to be sure I have them cut properly.  And now to the table saw.

Set the saw blade to the proper height and using this simple "sled"  cut away the notch that will sit over the patch.  Be careful of you fingers.

Here is the resulting notch on the longest tone bar.

Put a new, and very sharp blade in your exacto knife and the whittling begins.  I start a new blade with every build. A sharp knife is essential.

This back brace is done and ready to install

The back braces are done.  I will probably thin them down a bit at the ends once they are glued down.  Thats the easy part, tomorrow I whittle the tone bars into their proper shape.  That will take a little more time.
