Building a brand new prototype instrument is always exciting. What is it going to sound like?, how will it play? I will soon know about this very first tenor Pinecone
I am using this jig to accurately place the bridge. It is going to be exactly in the center of the sound board and at the usual 17'' tenor scale between saddle and nut.
This will be the third model in the Pinecone series that I began some years ago with the soprano. It was such a great little instrument that I grew it to Concert size and that has really been a terrific instrument. Never one to let a sleeping dog lie, I decided to try the carved and concave maple back in a tenor. This has a lot of interior volume and I suspect is going to really holler. Let us hope, sweetly.
So here it sits while the glue sets up under the bridge. Tomorrow I will install the tuners, fit a buffalo bone nut and saddle and string it up. I will keep this prototype. but if it is successful, you will see more to be sure. Cross your fingers.
