Here I am on Maui- in some ways the center of the Ukulele world. Today I dropped by two of the better known Uke shrines. Take a look
This small stand-alone building is the home of Mele Ukulele. Owned and operated by Mike and Cheryl Rock. The place is just filled with ukes of every size and description, designed and made by Mele. The basic structural work is done by their factory in the Philipines and the final details, finish, tuners, etc is done here on Maui. They build high quality instruments and number among their discriminating customers none other than Warren Buffet, one of the richest men in the world. But worry not, their ukes are reasonably priced, In fact I think they are a real bargain.
Here is Cheryl and her sales rep, Justin framed by just a few of the scores of ukes on display. If you ever get to Maui be sure you stop in and enjoy their Aloha welcome.
Your next stop should be Bounty Music, just a quarter of a mile down the road in Wailuku. These folks have the largest selection of Ukuleles that I have seen in a store. All the Hawaiin K brands, just most everything you might imagine. Take a look
Here is Paul Shiffen showing me a deluxe grade Kamaka, all $2,000 worth, but Bounty has ukes of all prices.
