I got two of the Concert Pinecones strung and singing sweetly this afternoon. Takes a long time to do all the last details. You must saw, file, sand and shape the buffalo bone nuts and saddles, measure and file string notches in the nut, Sand down the bridge a couple of times to get it the right height, measure and drill the string holes in the bridge, install the tuners, attach the strings, file the nut notches again to get the action right, It is kind of a pain in the neck BUT WORTH IT WHEN YOU CAN PLAY A NEW UKE.
These first two sound wonderful. I put my normal Aurora re-entrant colored strings on one, Ken Middleton's "Living Waters " low g on another. I like them both, Both ukes sound really good. The "Living Waters" are soft and very easy to play. They are fluorocarbons, stretch less than the Auroras. Maybe a little softer -warmer sound. Very nice strings. The Auroras are bright in both color and sound. Punchy and fun, excellent strings.
The third uke will be strung up tomorrow. One of these is going off to Liverpool England, Two are available for sale. In the meantime I am having a ball playing them in, stretching the strings and just enjoying the sound.
