YOU MAY HAVE THOUGHT I WAS ALWAYS A LUTHIER but in a prior life I have been many things, among them a grower of apples in the Espalier method. Twenty five years ago I planted a 52 tree Belgian Fence with 35 varieties of apples and pears each planted 2 1/2 feet apart and trained to grow in a lattIce pattern. Never got over the fun of training fruit trees. We moved a few years ago and now I only have room for one tree, a Jonagold growing in a wooden tub, But it is producing well and slowly growing up the training supports to its full height. You can do this anywhere you live if you have room for a tub.
