This huge bowl is turned and sanded except for the bottom where it was attached to the Lathe. Now I must turn it over, put it back on the lathe and turn the bottom. Here it sits on the device that will allow me to do that.
this "collar" fitted with bike inner tube rubber, fits over the bowl holding it to the device yet allowing me to work on the bottom.
It is all held together with these long threaded rods and wing nuts, clamping the collar down tight.
Now it goes back onto the lathe and is ready to turn.
Turning slowly, I have shaped the base. Now to sand it with the disc sander and this bowl will be done.
The signature and date, and the bowl is ready for the finish. I will put that on tomorrow when I can get it outside in the fresh air.
This big guy is a contribution to the upcoming Bellingham Festival of Music Auction. Wonder how much money it will bring. I think I will suggest a value of $300.00.
It was a beautiful Spring like day. I rewarded myself with a martini and a little uke playing in the late afternoon sun. The first day for outdoor ukulele playing this year.
