The final steps in the crack repair were done today and the big bass sounds as good as ever. It has some scars that it did'nt have when first built, but then so does its owner.
The first step this morning was to remove the three little winches by severing the wire or string wound in them. Here you can see the stubs. Wire on the right and very strong nylon thread on the two other holes. I found the thread worked better.
I simply reached inside and pulled out the tiny pieces of dowell with the wire/thread around them.
And now a look inside shows the patches all in place.- SUCCESS!
Now a liittle cosmetic work. This tiny scraper smooths and fairs the edges of the crack.
Then a lttle sand paper- some French Polish, and "Son of Gut Bucket " is as good as new, (almost)
