HOLY SMOKE! 498 folks looked at my blog yesterday. That is almost a record and extremely pleasing to me. Makes me feel guilty that I don't have much to write about tonite. Had a morning in the garden trimming shrubs to look good for the winter, Finally got into the shop after lunch working on the saddles and got them done
They are just sitting on the ukes in their approximate position. They will not be glued on until the very last moment when the french polishing is all done and I am about to string the instruments up, but just as I was sanding the slight curve in the last one, the shop door opened and I had a visit from a delightful young man who wants to build a ukulele.
Leo was his name, he had found my website and wanted to visit the shop. We talked for more than an hour and he left with the wood to make the soundboard, back and sides of his first ukulele and the knowhow to get whatever else he needs from some catalogs and addresses I gave him. It was fun to help this eager young guy and I am sure I will be seeing him again as he puzzles through his first build.
I have more wood that I am ever going to use so I sold him sides and back of walnut and a piece of my magnificent cedar for the soundboard. He left a few bucks on the work table and we both were pleased.
