STRAP BUTTONS

Some folks love a Ukulele strap, some folks don't, so I don't install strap buttons on my ukes unless someone asks for one.  If they do, it is a no charge bonus.  Here is how I make them from scrap pieces of Honduran Rosewood mostly.

first you must round out the stock on the lathe.  This piece is a little long. it will be tough to keep it from wobbling at the end.

Thats about where I want it I think.  better measure to be sure before cutting it off

I sawed that long piece in half to give more stability to the turning, here is the start of the button

This is the best time to put a shine on the knob. A little shellac on a munica and it will take on a permanent shellac finish.  Then I just saw it off with a small hand saw and it is ready to install in a uke.
