SOUNDBOARD WORK

Here is the cedar soundboard for the next Cocobolo/Cedar Tenor.  It will be #96.  I got the rosette glued in and sanded flat, turned the board over and sanded until the sound hole was open and than continued sanding the back until the thickness was down to .083.  I will hand sand the face now with fine grits to get it nice and smooth, put a coat of protective shellac on it and then turn it over to glue on the braces and tone bars.

close up of the spalted maple rosette.  When sanded and finished this will be very nice.

Because the groove cut for the rosette took out a lot of wood, and to guard against a split, this cedar ring will be glued cross grain under the sound hole.

In addition to the ring, these two braces, three tone bars and the walnut back-up plate will be glued to the soundboard tomorrow.

Wow, that's some serious dedication to detail! Looks like a lot of love and care goes into making these ukuleles. That spalted maple rosette looks amazing! Can't wait to see the finished product.
