ANOTHER DAY OF PROGRESS. the neck is attached, it's length decided, the connection to the body built and some of the necessary fairing of the neck done. Also the fingerboard is cut to length and narrowed down with band saw and spokeshave to it's approximate dimensions.
Notice the notch incised into the neck just to the left of the fingerboard. That will contain the Nut that I will make from buffalo bone. It will rise above the fingerboard and support the string between tuner and saddle.
The next challenge is to determine the proper camber for the fingerboard. Because this is to be a fretless instrument the fingerboard must be slightly concave so that when you depress a string to the fingerboard it breaks cleanly away to the saddle and does not make a buzz. What I do no know is just how much of a camber I should put into it. DOES ANYONE OUT THERE KNOW THE FORMULA? If you do- Please send me an email.
I will delay that fateful decision until just before I attach to the body. Hopefully I can figure it out by then.
