I HAVE COME to love Side sound ports in ukuleles. They direct sound at the player so you can hear yourself better in all situations, they do not diminish the over-all sound or volume of an instrument, and maybe even increase the volume. plus I think they look kind of race. Some luthiers just cut and sand a hole in the instrument side. Some bend a thin piece around the oval. I prefer to insert a wooden oval cut to my specifications on a CNC machine. Perfect ovals every time. They are not difficult to set into a side, Just takes some care, and I find a dremel tool helps a lot.
HERE IS WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE!
