THIS AFTERNOON I got my courage up and tackled bending the huge sides on the 2 string bass
The first challenge was running them through the thickness sander to get them down to .o80, a thickness that was safe to bend.
Next I had to heat up this massive 9 inch bending pipe provided by my friend Dale. It took thirty minute for the soldering iron inside it to heat it to 200 degrees when if you spit on the iron it pops off. I began bending at 200 checking the temp frequently with this cool contact thermometer. I found that the bending got much easier at 275 degrees.
