I PLUGGED IN THE PIPE BENDER with its newly installed soldering iron. I was pleased that it slowly (15 minutes) heated up to 275 degrees a good bending temp. I then un-plugged it but am sure it would have gotten even hotter. The heavy pipe was slow to heat and slow to cool down- an excellent characteristic for a bender. Now I came to the next step in bending these extremely wide sides- a mold.
I have cut out the shape in three pieces of 3/4 inch plywood. Then a bunch of thin strips. Now I am glueing and screwing it all together to make a mold that will contain the bent sides as they cool.
Now the mold is completed. three layers of the shape cut out of plywood separated by two strips of plywood.
Beside the mold you can see one of the sides to be bent. I must now thin the sides down to bending thickness before taking them to the new pipe bender.
