Cocobolo is strange wood to work with. The wood looks dark brown but when you sand it the dust is rather bright red. It is very oily wood and so the sawdust sticks together in clumps and windrows. It is also quite toxic so I wear a mask. No ill effects yet and this is the third Cocobolo tenor I have made.
I am sanding here with 180 grit. Next will be 220, then 320, and 400. By that time it will be ready for French Polish. Cocobolo is an extremely dense and lovely wood that grows in southern Mexico and Northern Central America.
This tenor is coming along. Got the fretboard tapered & cut to shape and dots installed today. ready for the frets next.
Cedar top, spalted maple rosette, ebony fretboard, This should be a nice one.
