The peg head on a Uke is obviously important since it has to hold and support the tuners, but it is also a fun place for a little decoration and the traditional place for a logo. I have a substantial supply of spalted maple that I like to use to decorate the Peg Head. I sand it down to a thin sheet, inlay the logo and glue it on top of the Peg Head.. I guess the maple, along with my inlaid g has become my signature. The spalted wood is interesting in its variety and beauty and it seems to match and go well with whatever combination of woods I choose for the instrument so until I run out of this wood I will use it on all my instruments. Here are the three plates used on the concerts I am now French polishing. note the different spalt patterns.
