PAT CAME TO TEST DRIVE the three new Concert Pinecones that I recently finished. As an experiment I strung them with three different sets of re-entrant strings that had been recommended by Dirk Wormhoudt of South Coast Strings. These were all South Coast string sets. I wanted Pat's opinion and experience in deciding which set was best with these ukes. Our conclusion was that there is no best string set, we liked them all, they were just different, really quite amazingly different. From bright and peppy and brilliantly, ringingly clear to soft and warm, and then something in between the two. I guess that is why people end up with more than one uke, the sounds can be so different, even with these three identical ukes.
After our testing we played other ukes. I played his lovely just purchased 1960 Martin baritone, he played my 2011 Griffin baritone, Then I got him to play a couple of my favorite tenors, and I filmed him in the process.
Enjoy a short clip. Incidently, he could not resist and bought one of the concert Pinecones.
