I MADE IT, after what seemed a long time, two plane flights, interminable terminal waits, getting a bit lost on the drive down,  but Skibbereen is an interesting little town loaded with history.
I think it will be worth it.  I bought myself an Irish cap and a Guinness today and got some good research done and notes taken.  But I think Boundary Bay "scotch" is better than Guinness.

I found Vancouver's international terminal very impressive, including several huge and marvelous North Coast carvings.  Here is Raven looking smug

And a huge salt water aquarium with two divers cleaning it and feeding the critters

Don't think for a minute I would have left without a ukulele.  This is my soprano Pinecone,  Just built for this purpose.

Can you believe the width of these seats. I paid extra for a seat with leg room, forget to ask about seat width.  That guy beside me is tall and skinny.  I barely fit in.

I survived the first flight to Gatwick/London and then boarded Ryan Air for Cork, Ireland
Picture
but I boarded at the back end.  Ryan is no-frills, low price, but it flew

All the way to Ireland--And it is indeed green and beautiful

Rented a car from Dooley Car Rental, seemed a nice thing to do in Ireland- and got lost a few times driving south to Skibbereen.  The white building is The West Cork Hotel where I have a room overlooking the river.  The building on the right served as a work house and soup kitchen during the famine in 1855-1859. Picture taken from front door of the Heritage Centre where I spent the morning and will visit again tomorrow for appointment with  researcher.
