WELL, THEY ARE'NT REALLY NEW -just like new.  These benches used to sit in Bellingham's downtown 30 years ago.  The city removed them years ago and dumped them at the Park Dept. yard.  Doug Starcher and I rescued a couple, John Servais raised the money to  refurbish them and Doug and I spent last tuesday assembling the newly powder coated cast iron benches with Ipe slats.  They look beautiful and we will install them in Fairhaven next week.  Can't make ukes and write history books every day.

Today was back to uke work- the fret boards are attached, now to shape the necks to them.  It starts with a rasp.

Next the bow sander.  To get the shape I want I will be using a scraper, the rasp, the bow sander and yes even a jack knife, or more properly an exacto knife and various carving tools.

I got tired of working on necks and decided to glue on the pinecone peg heads.

And here they are.  Now they are beginning to look like pinecones.  Lots of shaping, sanding, finish work but they are getting close.  Should have them ready to so in a month.
