Today I was able to complete the feet and cut all the mortises. Then came the sticky job of mixing up the epoxy and one at a time setting in the three legs. Using quick setting epoxy I was able to put each leg in its proper position, let the epoxy set up before turning the stand in the vise and inserting the next.
I am very pleased, the legs (or are they feet) hold the stand vertically. The center post is 1/2 inch off the floor, It seems about the right height and will extend upward another five inches. Now I will work on the instrument hanger to be made of brass with rubber tubing cushions. I will be doing a final clean-up and sanding and then a satin finish of some sort for this lovely cherry wood. Notice my ukes in the background, That corner of the hearth is my favorite place to practice. |
