MORE VANCOUVER WEEKEND

11/4/2013

NO TIME TO WORK ON UKES TODAY so I will share some more of the past weekend in the great Western port city of Canada.  It is truly one of the great cities of the world with world class architecture, a breathtaking natural setting, an amazing cultural mix of east and west, Asian, English, Cowboy, Skier, Fisherman, Boater, Native peoples, modern transportation, a city that people live in,  terrific cultural life, young people everywhere.  If you ever get out this way,  do not miss Vancouver.  The mountains rise from the sea directly behind the city.  In winter you can see the ski lift lights on Grouse Mountain from your high rise hotel room in the city.  It is all pretty amazing---NOW  how about a virgin rain forest ten minutes from town,  Capilano nature reserve, canyon  and  Suspension Bridge is an experience you don't want to miss.  Trees 1,500 years old, and you walk through the forest from tree to tree high above the forest floor,  A deep canyon carved by the river still running through it and the salmon that have spawned there for 13,000 years are still down there for you to see below the swinging bridge.  Do not miss it.

You enter through this portal line with totems and First Nations carvings
Picture
a nice totem greets you at the entrance

Picture
Oops! this great bronze bull  was seen on the downtown sidewalk in front of an investment office.  I got him in here by accident, but is he not a beauty.  Life size with all the proper equipment.

Picture
Suspended cat walks take you high up into the tree canopy from tree to tree. at the tree are small platforms like the crows nest on a sailing ship.  Here Marya is taking a photo

Picture
This is a rather magical experience walking 60 feet above the forest floor from tree to tree

Picture
And as you can see these trees are huge old growth forest giants that grow straight as a die towards the sky.

Picture
It is all carefully engineered to be safe, But it is mighty spooky if you don't feel comfortable with heights.

Picture
The next adventures the cliff walk, a walkway attached to the solid stone wall of the steep canyon with huge bolts and a most impressive steel system.  You are perhaps 100 feet above the river below.

Picture
And finally a precarious walk back across the bridge swinging across the gorge.  It sways and moves with every foot step and is sure to give you a thrill'

SO DON'T MISS THE CAPILANO GORGE WHEN YOU COME TO VANCOUVER.  IT IS MARVELOUS
