The milo tree has marvelous wood that is sometimes used for high class ukuleles. Chuck Moore uses it and considers it one of the best. It is not a large tree. A two foot trunk is a mature tree. The tree was brought to Hawaii by the first Polynesian voyagers. It grows along the shorelines and is now rather rare as a mature tree as its wood is used for carving, turning and Ukuleles. This young one is one of many planted on the grounds of the property that we are staying at. |
Here is a close up. Notice the nuts. about one inch in diameter.

THE MILO TREE
We enjoyed a walking history tour in Lahaina this morning. This picture from the beach. A lovely picture except for the ultra-huge cruise ship anchored in the roadstead. They were flooding the streets of Lahaina with eager shoppers/lookers.
