Find yourself a fun and festive belt of macrame or woven cotton. I just love the inexpensive and joyful belts woven of cotton by village women in mexico. I think they fit the ukulele culture perfectly. Then all you need is a scrap of leather and a sharp knife, a package of round shoe laces of the right color, and you are in business.
Cut yourself a nice little piece of leather in this general shape. Then cut or punch two holes in it. One to accept the end of your belt. Tie a big knot in the belt once it passes through your hole. At the other end, cut a hole the diameter of the shank of the strap button. Then cut a slit at one side of it just large enough to guarantee that your strap leather will fit over that button.
At the other end of the strap just tie a piece of a pretty round shoe lace to it or through it and use that to tie to the peg head of your uke. How simple is that?
If your new strap is too long, just fold it over and sew it together making it the proper length.
And there you have it, the perfect, fun and festive strap for your ukulele. It is so easy, so handy and so pretty.
