Before French Polish is completed I want to cut the holes for the tuners. Important to do it now so that the finish will look complete around the holes.
It begins by drilling a small pilot hole with an old fashioned hand drill. A power drill is apt to blast through and split out a piece in the back. Hand drills allow for delicately drilling through to the back without damage.
The first drill bit is followed by a little larger one which makes a hole just large enough for the entry of the tapered reamer. It also does not split out the back if done gently with the hand drill.
Now it is time to insert the tapered tool and enlarge the drilled holes to almost the size that the Peghed tuners will require.
i will stop here, just before the mark on the auger. I will finish the hole when I install the tuners. Now I can finish the French Polishing.
