Today I learned about cigar box instruments from a fellow who has built scores of them.
Jerry Kramer came to my workshop to buy a Concert Pinecone for his wife. What an interesting guy!. Before I knew it he was returning to give me two of his cigar box creations.

this he calls a "Bo Diddley one string guitar" 17 frets, one string, a cigar box and a tuner. Doesn't make much sound until you connect it to an amp.
And believe it or not, Jerry makes his own pickups from scrap fire/smoke alarms that he rescued from the dumpster at WWU. I can't explain how he does that, but I can testify that it works very well.
See the pickup jack on the right side of the cigar box. He even includes a strap button. and note the' "saddle', I think it is half of a die, as in roll the dice.
The Bo Diddley guitar even has a tuner. what a clever, creative instrument. But you need an amp to get full benefit from it.
If you are interested in contacting Jerry send me an email and I will connect you. I don't want to expose him to the internet without his permission. Jerry would probably love to make a Bo diddley for you.
