I hate to toss pretty wood and so I save every little scrap.  You never know when you might need it.

Today I needed just a little piece of Honduran Rosewood for "Journey's" heel cap, and sure enough, in that shoe box marked "rosewood"  I found several perfect pieces.

So it was time to prepare the heel

Stikit sandpaper on a stick works great to square things up or remove little humps and bumps.

Then you cut and fit the end cap with the bandsaw and sander.  Be sure to make it over size, you will cut it to fit perfectly later

trace the shape on a piece of black veneer (ebony), and then on a piece of white veneer (maple)

Cut them out with scissors and glue them on, first black, then white, then the heel cap. Clamp it tight for a couple of hours and you have a heel cap with a little accent.

A little work with a small rasp and some sandpaper and you are done.

the fretboard, bridge and peg head plate are just set in place to give us a look at what she will look like.  I also sanded to 220 grit today.  She will be darker when finished.
