JUST ONE MORE SURGERY

ONE MORE attack with the router on these poor ukes.  This time it is the back seam panel to place a pretty piece of tapered wood at the bottom of the uke where the sides meet.  I have made a little jig/guide to control the router
Picture
The uke is gently held in the vice with appropriate padding. The jig/guide is fitted in position and then held there with a couple of Irwin clamps.  Now we are ready to run the router bit through here carving out a channel for the decorative wood piece.

Here is the channel cut and ready to use.  First the binder and purfling will be installed and glued (note the two levels of cut to accommodate them.  Then I will cut a piece or pieces from extra binder stock and fit it into the back channel.

And now to bend the bindings.
