THESE WONDERFUL little native bees are terrific pollinators of fruit.  I have propagated them for about 25 years now and written a book about them. Check it out on Amason, "The Orchard Mason Bee",  a best seller.
The bees emerge every spring and do their good work.

I took this picture of a female mason bee this morning with an iPhone.  Entirely black, short antenna, they won't sting you  but they will sure build you apples.

this is what they nest in, cardboard tubes,  They are attracted to a hole in which they build cells, load them with food and lay an egg in each.  fascinating creatures.  a Springtime treat.
