MY NEXT THREE TENORS BUILD has begun. I have roughed out the necks, selected the top pieces and yesterday spent the afternoon making three rosettes.
I cut lots of little pieces of Koa and Spalted Maple with a very fine toothed Exacto hand saw. I cut them at a slight angle so they will fit around the circle that I have drawn on a piece of scrap spruce. I carefully collect the pieces I want and glue them to the scrap around the drawn circle using medium super glue.
Next I put a circle cutter in the drill press and set it to a depth that goes through the rosette pieces and partially BUT NOT ENTIRELY through the scrap backing.
then I carefully cut the rosette to size adjusting the circle cutter but not the depth of the cut. When the cuts are made the whole works is taken to the thickness sander and I sand off the back of the scrap until the sander hits the depth of the cut. At that point perfect circular rosettes miraculously fall out. Next step will be to rout the groove to accept the rosette and two little black strips that wil
