THIS IS A FIRST TIME event. I am modeling the bridge for the Big Bass after Cello bridges and so have been on line learning as much as I can. I had some excellent dried and figured maple of the right thickness and size and so now I must plane it down to a wedge shape to make a bridge
The Bridge is almost done. I need to thin it down a bit and do a little careful knife work chamfering the edges but it is almost done. Next task is to make the "End Piece that will connect the strings to the "End gut" which I think will be a piece of nylon, or kevlar if I can find it. The "end gut" loops around the rosewood knob I turned through which the extension foot goes. When that is done I will be able to string it up and get a first sense of what I have created. There will be much experimenting with strings, sound posts, other factors effecting sound such as thickness of the Spruce top. I wil resolve all of these issues as best as possible before thinking about finishing this great beast.
