I SPENT THE DAY IN THE WORKSHOP and made some good progress. The dreaded router work is done on the 2 string Bass Back.
And now it is a matter of thinning down the back with this fine little Ibex plane taking the wood down until the little center punch marks from the Forstner bit. Because it was set to stop at 3/16ths of an inch you know when the little mark disappears under the plane the back is 3/16ths thick.
Here you can see the marks of the drill bit. The center guide point and the circular marks of the blade. When this is all gone the back will be completed and all the same thickness. Working with the Ibex plane and a sharp scraper is much more rewarding than the router. Quiet, effective, intuitive, and makes lovely shavings- not sawdust.
