Glueing together the two large pieces, (10 by 28) of Sitka Spruce to create the tone board is not an easy task. First you must make sure your edges join perfectly. I do this by installing a long piece of sandpaper on the flat saw table and slipped partially under the rip fence. Then by sanding in one direction only I am able to make the edges so compatible that you cannot see light between them.
Then the challenge is to glue them together. for that as you can see above, I use a number of clamps. First I laid a shed of saran wrap on the saw table, then the glued edges of the sound-board. Then another sheet of Saran Wrap. On top of the glued edges I laid a d long aluminum ruler and on top of that two heavy bags of lead shot and a big chunk of railroad track to prevent the joint from rising when I applied the lateral pressure with clamps.
Two boards on the sides clamped to the saw table add assurance that the top will not flex up under pressure. Then finally the clamps were tightened and the joint was tightly joined. .
The large and perfectly flat table saw top will provide the necessary flat gluing surface. I will leave it there over-night and in the morning I will be able to add a rosette. cut the sound hole and glue on braces and sound struts.
