The three concert "Pinecones" are almost ready for their eager new owners. The french polish is almost completed and now I am sawing Buffalo Bone and fitting the nuts and saddles. I start by sawing the bone in rough shape on the band saw, Then with the thickness sander, files, and sandpaper on a flat surface, each nut and saddle is fitted to its individual instrument. Note in the picture below the 1/2 pencil in the mid background. That pencil rides along the frets to mark on the saddle the depth of the string slots to be filed into the nut.
Once the strings are on there will be lots of filing and fitting of Buffalo bone to get the action just right.
