Once the instrument is completed there are lots of little finishing touches to be done, like leveling any frets that might be a little high, filing fret ends so that they are smooth, setting the action at the right height.
this fret was a little high. I took it down with a diamond stone, re-rounded it with a fret file and touched it up with this sanding stick before polishing it . Note the fret at the bottom of the picture was a little high at each end and flattened by the stone. It too will get the rounding and polish treatment.
Here is the fret file. Note the concave file teeth. You are looking at the wider side, I am using a narrower concave file on the fret.
Uke players hate sharp fret ends. This special little file has a rounded edge so that it won't mar the wood, You file off each fret edge with a rolling motion that smooths it nicely. Of course you loosen and hold the string away while doing this.
