TODAY I VISITED ERIC DEVINE in his workshop. I have been anticipating seeing my tenor "Muse" uke that he should have ready for me in a couple more months. I think Eric makes the worlds best ukuleles and I want to own one. A year ago I visited his shop and selected the woods. Today I saw those woods just "boxed up". My uke
has wonderful curly koa for sides and back and absolutely incredible redwood for it's top. These pictures will hopefully show you what the future holds. Wonderful wood, truly talented luthier, I am hoping will result in a memorable outstanding instrument. I have several days of blog photos to share with you, enjoy-and come back tomorrow

Here is Eric in his element, his workshop. I had just delivered some boxwood that I had cut from an old boxwood hedge in 1984. I have a lot of it and have saved it all these years. Eric uses it for some of his delicate
inlay work, liking the yellowness and hardness of boxwood. Hopefully his smile displays his pleasure at my gift.

And here is my Devine "Muse" tenor just boxed up yesterday. The quality of the redwood top is just incredible.
Remember that it came from an old {100 year old) water tank on Maui. Only three of its staves met Eric's requirement, perfectly quarter sawn, sound and fine grained. It is a two piece top, the rosette is of the same white curly koa that the uke will be bound with.

And here is the back. Wow! this is curly koa, from a tree so curly it was dubbed "the mother of koa" can you imagine what this will look like when the finish hits it?
Well, I guess you want to see the sides too. More super mastergrade koa. This will be bound with highly figured white curly koa. I am expecting that it will be lovely.
