A classic acoustic instrument wood, it's scientific name is Dalbergia Latifolia, a true rosewood. I have made many ukuleles with this beautiful wood.
It usually has rather straight grain. It bends pretty easily. Color is typically a bit purplish to brown. These are book matched pairs, each pair is wide and long enough to make a tenor ukulele back and sides.
And if you are very lucky you can sometimes find the wild grain East Indian like this.
I have a few pieces for sale.

East Indian Rosewood takes a lovely finish. This is Eva's tenor getting close to being finished. It is beginning to get a nice shine.
