After thinking about it for a week and pondering the excellent suggestions of Pat and Dale to carve a "Griffin" head at the bottom of the neck, I finally decided last night that it would balance well and look best to simply repeat the volute for the instrument end of the neck- So I got started this afternoon
After drawing out the volute shape in two dimensions you carefully saw to the lines you have drawn. You can see the saw cuts all around the ramps of the volute. Notice the Japanese pull saw. They are so much better than our English "push" saws. I never use anything else.
After a couple hours in the workshop the volute is complete, needing only a lot of careful sanding this neck will be done. Then I can concentrate on the body. I like the choice.
