CARVING THE NECK

Nothing more vital to the playability of  a uke than a well shaped neck.

It starts with this small and very sharp draw knife.

Then to a spokeshave and finally to the rasp.  Now the shaft is close to the final shape and our attention turns to the hook and a change of tools.

Let hog off lots of the excess wood with this sharp chisel

And round things off with the round surform rasp.

Finally it is time to burn in the number etc.  and the necks are ready to attach to the soundboards.
#169 for Diann in Florida and #170 for Eva in Bellingham.
