WELL, I guess I was busking. I got invited to do a book signing at a book store in LaConner. The idea was that the passerby's would stop and chat and buy a book which I would then sign. I brought along my ukulele, suspecting my three hour stint might be a little slow. It was!, lots of folks passed by, Only one bought a book, maybe I should have put my open instrument case on the ground in front of me salted with a few dollar bills.
Oh well, it was a lovely sunny day and I got a little practice in.

Next day, back in the workshop I got to work on the end strip, the last of the binding project. First I cut away the white from the purfling. Then stripping the white from a left over piece of binding, I fitted and glued it to the edges of the cut. Then I carefully fitted a spare piece of koa from my scrap box. The koa most closely resembled the Australian Blackwood of the binding. |
Once I got that fitted the piece was glued in, and then in a couple of hours it was ready to plane down and sand to fit flush to the back. Opp's, I see I took this picture of a different uke. This one needs a little tweaking here and there and quite a bit more sanding, but you get the idea.
