I have made two wonderful baritones recently with Sitka Spruce soundboards with nice "bear claw" markings. I want to make another as my 110th instrument but was entirely 0ut of the scarce bear claw spruce. It called for a visit to my friends at Pacific Rim Tonewoods, and wow did I score some "bear claw".
How about this, even though the photo is a bit hazy
Or this, imagine what that will look like with finish on it.
I simply could not resist this beautiful wood and I bought eight sets. Certainly more than I am going to need, so if any luthiers are reading this and need a set or two, contact me. The price will be reasonable.
I also bought a great stash of lovely curly Koa binding with black/white/black purfling. This was on sale because there are tiny imperfections at one end of each. Not good for guitars, but perfect for ukuleles as we just cut off the offending end and toss it and still have more than enough for a ukulele. I will happily sell much of this also as I have far more than I can ever use. Contact me for a price. I can pre-bend them for you also=for a price. A great afternoon at Pacific Rim Tonewood.
