I made some good progress today wet sanding the Baritone and Concert, and then applying several new applications of French Polish. Also got the Butt Plate glued on the new tenor,
But the real fun was resawing on my new Grizzly bandsaw. This saw really does the job. And take a look at this wood.
This is Lace Wood, Platanus acerifolia. To my surprise my directory says that it is wood from the London Plane tree, that classic street tree of Europe and now much of America. This wood was given to me some time ago and i just cut it up into 6 usable pieces. Each two will make a tenor back. I also have some long enough for sides. It tap tones pretty well and I think it would make a good instrument, It surely would be unique.
Not sure what the next build will be. Maybe this wood with a Port Orford top and a black walnut neck. with some dark ebony binding? The saw cut it straight and true-and thin. Love to be able to resew that way.
