Here comes #176 and 177. another East Indian Rosewood and Redwo0d favorite and another blondie, a Sycamore and Cedar. both destined for California. I begin by putting the rosette in the sound board and cutting out the sound hole.
Thats shellac around the rosette to prevent the glue from staining the wood.
the hole is cut out on the drill press and then perfected on the vertical sander, then the soundboard will be thinned down to about .90 depending upon the wood used.
Meanwhile rick is thinning the sides down to .075 for bending.
Here is the wet Sycamore side ready to be bent. It lays on the flexible stainless steel used in the bending.
And the bending begins. I bent sides for both ukes today over the hot pipe.
The hot pipe is heated by a soldering iron inside it. You can see the handle.
while the pipe is hot, might as well bend the eight bindings that will be needed.
after two days we are off to a good start on these ukes. Also got the backs thinned and their braces glued on,
