In a great flurry of enthusiasm I have made twelve of these shakers, each with a different wood. The varying sounds they make are uncanny. While the overall shapes may be a little different, they are each made with a bent piece of maple veneer 13 1/4 long so the interior volume must be approximately identical. Each shaker contain 25 dried berries of the Madrona tree. The wooden ovals of various species are approximately the same thickness, AND YET THEY ALL SOUND DIFFERENT.
I will keep this set in the shop for demonstration purposes so I burned identifying names on them. I may make these shakers to sell as scraps pile up in the future. They will probably not be identified this way.
While I was at it I thought the scientific names might add some interest.
