The great Jake Shimabukuro came to Bellingham Saturday nite to play a gig at the Mt Baker Theater. Our ukulele group, The Community Ukulele Players (CUP), was playing a gig at the membership reception before the show at the in- house Walton theater. Jake graced us with an appearance, and to our delight and joy, joined us for a song. You can watch it if you will google "Facebook, Jake Shimabukuro." already 5,600 people have seen it.
What a humble and nice guy Jake is, A true gentleman. He left Bellingham with a host of friends.
Well, I can't say Jake has played a Griffin uke, but I offer proof that he has held one. Here Delrene Gardiner is handing him her Griffin saying "look at this uke" Thanks for the boost Delrene.
You can see Jake just to the right of our wonderful director Linda Henderson. Jake joined us playing 'georgia on my mind".
Left to right, Sally Baird, yours truly playing my bass, Pat Madsen with his contra baritone, and Chip Lauckhart picking melody. In the background is Georgia Heald playing her Griffin tenor,
I used to play a wash tub gut bucket so I call this two string bass I built, "Son of Gut Bucket" It is wondrous fun to play.
And here is Delrene's uke back in her hands having been touched by the Master. Does it play better now Delrene?
Thanks Jake for an unforgettable evening.
