Much of what I know about lutherie been has come from this fine gentleman, George Thomas, a maker of fine guitars and a craftsman devoted to excellence. George, from the beginning of my launch into instrument building, has been a guiding light and a a mentor. I caught him today in a Yin/Yang shirt which I thought was quite appropriate. Thanks George, for you sage advise for all these years.
Back in my shop we are pore filling. East Indian Rosewood has significant pores. To get the smoothest finish I want to fill those pores. I have collected fine sawdust from scraps of the wood, now I sprinkle it on the wood and with a cotton ball with a squirt of french polish (shellac diluted in alcohol} the sawdust is rubbed into the pores.
the neck also gets that treatment, and when the pores are filled, the French Polish process can begin.
