Then, back at the workshop, I finished installing the bindings and began work on the heel caps and end pieces.

This is the three piece sandwich that will become the heel cap.  first an ebony veneer, then a maple veneer, finally the ebony heel cap.

Now they are glued together on the heel.

Here is the acrylic taper that I cut out to make the router guide for cutting the end groove.  It mimics the angles of the groove exactly and I used it to mark and cut a piece of koa that I then fitted into the groove.  Worked perfectly.  Another lesson learned in the unending adventure of luthery.
