MAKING AN ARCHED BACK OF THIS SIZE is a lot of work I have discovered, but little by little I am getting there

Now the drill press work is done  The un cut part in the center I could not reach with the drill press so I must figure another way to hog off that half inch of maple.

Seemed like the router would be the best choice so here is the first step,  Takes a couple of stages to cut this much down. and what a mess it makes,  The vacuum helps a lot, but wear a mask and ear protection.

An hour later the channels are cut through to the proper depth but now how do I cut the high ridges away and still support the router so it does not penetrate the back and ruin the whole thing?  A nights sleep and a suggestion from a blog reader resulted in this simple "sled" that slides through the channels and holds the router at the proper height.  Here I have removed a couple of the ridges, four more to go.  A tedious noisy and messy job, but I am almost there now.
