A Pleasant afternoon in the shop saw lots of progress
To glue braces to the Cocobolo back I wet a rage with Acetone and rubbed off some of the oil from the wood making room for the glue to penetrate. Look at what came off on my rag. This wood is indeed oily.
Then the braces are glued on and set up in the Go-Bar.
Then in a whittling mood I made the rest of the braces and tone bars for both ukes. I roughed out the shapes on the band saw- A tip ! If you value your fingers, as I do, when sawing small items on a band saw use a scrap piece of 14 inch plywood as your base. It gives you a much flatter and controllable surface to saw these little things on. Your work piece stays much more stable.
Next I thinned the Pinecone top down to its final thickness on the sander.
and glued on the braces and backing plate
Five o'clock- time for a cocktail
